Marketing Support for an AI SaaS Startup: A Two-Year Collaboration

The Importance of Marketing in a Startup

FLOURISH (F): Let’s begin by discussing why marketing is essential for startups. What kind of challenges do startups typically face in this area?

Client: In startups with around 30 to 50 people, the focus is usually on hiring engineers, salespeople, consultants, and customer success professionals. Marketing is often deprioritized because it’s not perceived to have an immediate impact on revenue. Moreover, it’s rare to find marketers who can manage the entire marketing process alone, so even when someone is hired, it might not function effectively. Companies tend to be cautious in their hiring decisions for this reason.

But postponing the development of a marketing function often leads to a situation where there are plenty of salespeople—but no leads. That’s why it’s critical to have marketing functioning from an early stage.

Marketing, inside sales, field sales, and customer success are all part of the broader “sales” process. None of these areas can afford to be a bottleneck.

Why Choose FLOURISH?

F: Thank you for entrusting us with your marketing activities for two full years. What made you choose FLOURISH?

Client: In B2B marketing, the ultimate goals are pipeline generation and revenue growth. To achieve that, I believe there are five key functions:

You understood how to set KPIs and implement strategies for each of these. Even when unfamiliar with a new area, you had the know-how to approach it effectively. That adaptability was a major strength. Very few people can manage and maximize all aspects of marketing like that.

F: It’s true—at larger companies, marketing is usually divided across multiple teams. Many marketers don’t get the chance to work cross-functionally. But that’s precisely what’s needed in startups. It’s not just about opportunity—it’s about having curiosity and the willingness to respond to those opportunities.

Measurable Results

F: How do you feel about the numerical results?

Client: We saw strong growth across website traffic, conversions, and lead generation. When we started, we barely had any inbound leads. Now, inbound appointments have grown dramatically and stabilized at a high level—well above what’s typical for startups.

F: That’s great to hear. Ultimately, sales teams evaluate the effectiveness of marketing. How did your sales team view the impact?

Client: One key factor was the timely publication of relevant content—like industry trends and product updates—early in our collaboration. That significantly boosted inbound activity. The speed and flexibility you brought, from event execution to content creation and publication, really helped us stay agile.

Flexibility & Technical Agility

F: We’ve always aimed to be flexible. Do you prefer a flexible partner or one who strictly follows instructions?

Client: Flexibility, without a doubt. We understand our business, but we aren’t experts in marketing. We want our partner to propose ideas, suggest tools, and help us learn. You introduced us to several tools for online events, offering options we wouldn’t have found ourselves. That was rare and valuable.

Also, your costs were lower than other firms, which made a big difference.

F: Many clients mention cost-effectiveness. Often, it comes down to technical agility—how quickly a team can learn and adapt to new tools or methods. Some firms follow a rigid, manual-based approach, which can be slow and inefficient. Our approach is more nonlinear and experimental, which yields value but can also be more intensive.

To be honest, I’m considering a price increase! (laughs) But we’ll need to find new ways to balance value and sustainability going forward.

Looking Ahead

F: What do you expect from FLOURISH moving forward?

Client: Your strength in strategy, execution, analysis, and trend-tracking is already top-tier. I’d love to work together again in the future. The next step is to see how you can scale your impact—expanding your team and extending your reach. That’s what I look forward to.

F: Thank you very much. We’re excited for what’s ahead!
